From traditional Belgian style ales to experimental IPAs, you’ll find a beer that perfectly suits your tastebuds here. This is an intimate spot on the northeast edge of Chinatown where bartenders draw the tap for hoppy and malty lagers or ales, saisons, and a small but excellent wine list. The kitchen serves small bites too at both this location and in Pomona. Los Angeles may not have been known for its craft beer culture about a decade ago, but the past five years have brought about a brewery renaissance in the city.

Proud purveyors of “Farm Grown and Hand Crafted” products.

From Frogtown to Torrance, inventive artisans across town have started tinkering and experimenting with the magical combination of water, malt, hops and yeast to bring a fresh new taste to the beer scene. Beachwood Blendery has been pushing boundaries in Southern California craft beer for years, thanks to its prodigious barrel-aging program and funky, often fruity finished styles. This is the spot to take craft beer nerds after a day at the beach — or, really, anyone who enjoys a little sour, tartness, and funk in their brews. Housed in the historic Firestone tire station on La Brea, All Season Brewing is the expansive, all-purpose informal Mid-Wilshire bar that the city has been waiting for. A menu of draft wines and classic cocktails, delicious snacks from Chicas Tacos, arcade games and Skee-Ball round out a night at the expansive open-air brewery, which also has an excellent weekday specials. When you really want to drink to the Dodgers but don’t want to spend $18 on a subpar stadium beer, this Chinatown taproom is where you go.

Brouwerij West

We’re partial to Las Perlas, a German-style Kölsch that’s described as bready, honey-sweet and bright. The flavors fly off the tongue in just the right way while leaving a satisfying finish. You also can’t miss the Traction, an IPA with notes of mango, papaya, dank citrus and fresh grass. Arts District Brewing Company is the kind of place where even if you wind up hating everything you drink here (you absolutely won’t), you’ll still have an incredible time.

Local Lager

But don’t confuse classic with commonplace or quotidian — their beers are full of flavor, richness and unfiltered deliciousness. They offer about six beers year-round, but what you’ll really want to get your hands on is one of their limited-edition, seasonal batches. The Barrel Aged Saison is a wildly refreshing imperial saison that’s been aged in Côtes du Rhône red wine barrels. Situated in the heart of the Arts District, Angel City Brewery has been a tried and true watering hole for the neighborhood since it relocated to the expansive warehouse in 2010. However, this local favorite has been slinging its delicious ales since it was founded in 1997, establishing itself as a leader in the LA craft beer boom long before others caught on. In 2009, Eagle Rock Brewery became the first brewery in years to open within L.A.

One Of The Most Scenic Spots To Enjoy A Beer Is Milkhouse Brewery, A Beautiful Gem In Maryland

Though they’re best known for their dedication to IPAs—they execute both West Coast (Hello, LA) and hazy styles (DDH More) very well—don’t sleep on their funky, experimental saisons and farmhouse ales. And they make a pretty great pilsner that we like to drink in the shower. We will also be supporting Frederick Health Hospice, Camp Jamie again this year. Camp Jamie is a special opportunity for grieving children, adolescents and teens to come together to talk about their feelings related to the death of someone special, and learn coping skills for dealing with those feelings.

Monkish Brewing Co.

On March 30, 1932, federal agents raided the Maier Brewery and discovered what they called "unshakeable evidence" that the facility had been producing full strength, 4% ABV beer. Prohibition officers arrested Maier's sales manager and one of his employees. Owner Edward R. Maier denied knowledge of the illicit brew, but authorities seized the brewing equipment and bottling plant.

Be sure to check out their weekly programming — they host cornhole tournaments, puppy parties, Nintendo game nights and zine-making workshops for the community. Kicking off the list is the exceptional Three Weavers Brewing Company, a woman-owned operation and the very first craft brewery in Inglewood. This place has got a lot to love — from their award-winning Kolsch to their community-driven ethos to their very fun, very friendly tasting room. Get your hands on their “Citra Puffs” — a satisfyingly juicy pale ale that’s basically summer in a can with its notes of citrus peel, stone fruit and pineapple.

One minute past midnight on April 7, 1933, actress Jean Harlow smashed a bottle over an Eastside delivery truck to mark the legalization of 3.2% ABV beer. A full repeal of Prohibition came less than a year later with the ratification of the Twenty-first Amendment. Ragged Company is a 5 piece Americana/Roots music band who have been playing in the Frederick, Maryland area for over 10 years.

19 Places to Cool Down With Some Craft Beer in LA, Summer 2023

An expansive beer garden connects a 55-foot tank bar to a 1,200-square-foot cider room, providing an urban oasis for outdoor parties with food trucks and DJs. The Los Angeles craft beer scene is an absolute behemoth, supporting dozens of award-winning brewers across different cities and setups. There are English-style brews made in Van Nuys, barreled lambics drawn in Long Beach, and gold metal IPAs and hazies scattered across the county.

San Pedro’s own Brouwerij West is a modern-day craft success story, going from a small brewing operation into one of the area’s coolest places to hang out and sip beer. This massive warehouse can seat endless drinkers, and on weekends it bustles with food and lots of San Pedro and Long Beach locals. Common Space craft beer is a Hawthorne staple (one of several actually), turning out straightforward, delicious brews for consumption at bars and restaurants all over town, and on the company’s ample warehouse patio space. Though they have a strong stout game, you’re going here for Monkish’s IPAs and pale ales, which frequently push one hop variety until they move on to their next favorite.

And with that vehicle we suggest a very nice designated driver whom you can hand a kombucha to keep them satisfied, because we didn’t limit ourselves to Los Angeles city proper with this list. Milkhouse Brewery at Stillpoint Farm is Maryland’s first Farm Brewery under Maryland’s new law. They carefully hand craft fine beer with ingredients grown on Stillpoint Farm in Frederick County, Maryland. With tropical notes of citrus and pineapple, this ale is pleasantly hop-forward without being overly aggressive. 6.8% ABV, 35 IBU Grain bill is Pale, Pilsner, Vienna, Munich and Melanoidin.

Since then, two more—Nibble Bit Tabby and Angel City—have begun concocting new mixtures of barley, hops, water, and yeast inside the City of Los Angeles, joining a growing cohort of Southland craft brewers. Like many American cities in the mid-twentieth century, Los Angeles once hosted its own regional breweries that supplied the city and its environs with light, affordable American pale lager. Before intense competition led to their decline, L.A's own Eastside Lager and Brew 102 battled in local and regional markets with such national brands as Budweiser, Schlitz, and Miller. Ice cream enthusiasts can start down the trail by stopping by the Visit Luzerne County website and following the online prompts. By checking in at participating shops, they can collect points and redeem them to scoop prizes, including t-shirts, hats and beach towels. With dozens of taps and a lot of hard-to-source beer, Glendale Tap has emerged as one of the city’s best beer bars over the past decade.

The family turned the 16-acre Brewery site into an amazing new artist colony. Milkfarm also hosts classes, “Meet the Maker” Saturdays, wine and cheese pairings, and private parties in-house. But if you want to truly drink in Benny Boy, go for the Snakebite—half beer and half cider in a glass. It’s a pretty perfect poetic representation of the brewery, if we do say so ourselves. Pomona is about as far east as you can drive and still be in Los Angeles County. Don’t listen to them — Homage is worth the drive, creating some of the most inventive brews in the region.

Each camp provides unique opportunities to express and communicate grief in a healthy and safe environment. Though many know Montebello’s shipping container food hall for the food, there’s a handy tasting room tucked away in the back. It’s always a pro move to place an order — especially the fairly new Chicano eatery SolRad — and order Honest Abe’s Mexican lollipop brew with watermelon and spice. Homage’s beers have peppered our “Best Of” lists over the years, from “The 20 Best Beers to Drink in Summer 2021” to “The 20 Best Beers We Drank in 2020.” This is a true gem that’s worth the drive. Navy warehouse built during World War II, and the space is simultaneously cavernous and stunning. You’ll feel like saying cheers to your 300 new friends scattered amongst the long tables set under string lights, and there is enough seating both indoors and out for the entire port.
